When/Where is packet pick-up?
At St. John's Episcopal Church, E. Myrtle Street main entrance.
Friday March 19th from noon to 8pm. If you arrive early, please note that the doors won't open until noon.
Race Morning (3/19) from 7am-8:15am. The 10K kick-off is 8:30am.....and the 4K walkers are "released" a minute or two thereafter.
Can I walk the 10k road race?
Yes. Ideally, everyone who wants to participate in this race can and should do so. However, we will only have support from the police department (blocked roads, patrols, etc) for the first 90 minutes, after which you will have to move to the sidewalks and obey all traffic signs. Our dedicated volunteers will still be out on the course, looking out for your safety, until the last racer comes in!
We also have the Chasing Snakes 4k Fitness Walk/Fun Run, so that those who don't want to participate in the 10k road race, or wouldn't be able to finish in the allotted time, can still be involved in the day's events!
Are dogs allowed?
Yes, well behaved doggies are allowed on the 4K fitness walk.
Why Chasing Snakes?
Legend has it that in the 4th century, Saint Patrick cursed all of the venomous snakes in Ireland and drove them out into the sea where they drowned, never again to return to the isles’ shore. For more St Patrick's Day lore, click here or here.
This is a charity race. Who is it supporting?
Proceeds support Family Promise of Greater Johnson City (formerly known as IHN), a network of churches and community agencies in the Johnson City area which provide support for homeless families with children.
Who is organizing this event?
A team of volunteers from St John's Episcopal Church make up the Chasing Snakes Committee and are organizing the event for the community. We have hired the State of Franklin Track Club to manage the event, and our 10k course is USATF certified (TN0879MS)
How can I help?
- We are currently looking for sponsorship on all levels. Please contact us for further information.
- We are in need of volunteers who can be there on Friday before race day and on Race Morning from 7:00am-10am, to help us set up, monitor the event and (of course) clean up after all the tired runners have gone home. Please email chasingsnakes at gmail.
